A welcoming and technologically advanced hospital with a full continuum of services, from neonatal intensive care to geriatric medicine.
There’s a good reason more than 1,400 babies a year are born in the UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. Prospective parents are attracted by The BirthPlace, where maternity classes help smooth the transition to parenthood. The comfortable, homelike labor-and-delivery and postpartum rooms — and the exceptional nursing care — play a part in many families’ happy memories. And parents as well as physicians rely on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, providing high-tech, high-touch care for premature newborns and other high-risk infants.
For children beyond infancy, the Pediatrics Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provide expert care. Even our Nethercutt Emergency Center is designated an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics. An extensive laboratory located below the emergency center contains the latest chemistry, hematology and blood-bank analyzers.
Other strengths of UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica combine to make it a cornerstone of UCLA Health. The Orthopaedic Institute is part of the campus, reflecting a 1998 strategic alliance with Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. A dedicated oncology unit provides cancer care that combines the latest treatments and a healing environment with highly skilled professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.
The UCLA Rape Treatment Center is a national model for the treatment of sexually abused adults and children. Experts offer comprehensive, free treatment for sexual assault victims and their families, including 24-hour emergency medical care, forensic examinations, crisis intervention, long-term professional counseling, advocacy and accompaniment services. The RTC is the only facility in Los Angeles, and one of the few in the country, where sexual assault victims can receive all of the services they need in one place, 24 hours a day.
Geriatric services are provided in a welcoming and technologically advanced environment. In all, there are 266 inpatient beds, 16 operating rooms, 1,100 physicians and more than 2,000 employees, plus volunteers and care extenders.
Spacious corridors, an abundance of natural light, soft hues and private rooms with comfortable sleep chairs await patients and families. More than 25 percent of the campus is dedicated to green and open spaces, including the 18,000-square-foot Harman Garden Plaza, where patients, visitors and staff can enjoy fresh air, sunshine and ocean breezes.
