Nowadays, an individual may hold 11 jobs and three separate careers over his/her lifetime. For this reason, it’s imperative to keep skills fresh. To always strive. To always learn. Since its inception in 1917, UCLA Extension has forged the path to nontraditional learning and cutting-edge curricula, helping students advance skills and aspire to new careers via one of the oldest continued-learning programs in the nation. UCLA Extension has offered innovative programs such as short-course classes for postgraduate degrees, the nation’s first Chicano studies program, and college-level courses for young adults with developmental disabilities.
Today, innovation is still a hallmark of UCLA Extension. Each year, nearly 50,000 people enroll in UCLA Extension courses. The robust catalog offers a diverse selection of course work, including 230 certificate programs that represent more than 75 academic departments, as well as individual courses and workshops. UCLA Extension course topics range from traditional to quirky, from business analysis to craft brewing.
UCLA Extension recognizes that today’s students need flexible and nontraditional learning methods. That’s why courses are not confined to a classroom; rather, learning goes beyond borders. Students have options to take courses at times and places that are most convenient, including nights, weekends and online.
The UCLA Extension Innovation Fund helps ensure that curricula continue to be groundbreaking, relevant and innovative. UCLA Extension courses provide new skills and a new network to students.
Students can learn in class or online, as well as via night or weekend classes.
Enrollees can choose from more than 200 certificate programs and 5,000 courses each year.
Subject matter experts and UCLA faculty lead courses and workshops.
Students may take flipped learning courses, where they watch a lecture before class.
