Trailblazers, advocates, scholars, and creators—UCLA students with disabilities represent a powerful and vital part of our campus community. They arrive at UCLA with the same drive and potential as any student, but may face unique challenges in navigating university life without dedicated support. That’s where the Center for Accessible Education (CAE) steps in: to ensure that every qualified student has the access, opportunity, and tools they need to thrive.
The CAE is the central campus resource for students with disabilities, offering individualized support that ranges from academic accommodations to housing advocacy. Whether a student needs help with extended test-taking time, accessible classroom materials, or tailored housing arrangements, CAE collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to foster a campus where accessibility and inclusion are integral to student success.
Disability is not a limitation on ambition or potential—it is one aspect of the diverse identities that enrich UCLA. CAE empowers thousands of Bruins each year to engage fully in the academic and co-curricular life of the university, while also serving as a campus-wide educational resource on disability and inclusion.
In recent years, support for the Center for Accessible Education has helped:
- Serve over 6,300 undergraduate students, graduate students, and scholars with disabilities
- Proctor more than 20,000 exams annually
- Provide students with access to disability-related classroom furniture and adaptive technology
- Offer one-on-one meetings with trained CAE Specialists to develop individualized support plans
- Ensure academic accommodations and campus advocacy that promote an inclusive UCLA experience for all
