The search for solutions starts here. As we look for ways to make the world better, the search for solutions often begins at leading research institutions like UCLA—and some of the most exciting solutions emerge from the fields of science and engineering. You can help find these solutions by making a gift to the UCLA Fund. Our students come to UCLA for the opportunity to explore and experiment as they build their own problem-solving abilities. One source of inspiration is the UCLA Samueli Makerspace, a 9,000-square-foot creative space that lets them put 3D printers, laser cutters, a virtual reality system and more to work as they uncover creative answers. And we have the faculty to mentor these students as they frame their questions and studies, including 19 of the world’s most influential researchers as ranked by international analytics firm Clarivate. Our accomplished and lauded UCLA professors in engineering and the physical sciences include five Nobel laureates, seven members of the National Academy of Inventors and 31 members of the National Academy of Sciences. What kind of research and achievement can you support at UCLA? Distinguished Adjunct Professor Asad Madni of UCLA Samueli School of Engineering received the Medal of Honor from the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers for his work in sensing technology, which has supported the development of autonomous vehicles. Chemistry Professor Richard Kaner, who developed a membrane that separates oil from water to help clean up debris from fracking, was granted the American Chemical Society’s Award in Applied Polymer Science.Associate Professor Aradhna Tripati of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability has won the Willi Daansgard Award from the American Geophysical Union for her work in paleoclimatology and paleoceanography. Your gift can help UCLA continue to find answers to a myriad of questions. And through our solutions, we will build the future together. • • •
