Imagine a world without reading or literature, history or philosophy — a world without the opportunity to interpret our shared human legacy and work together to shape a better future. That is a world without the humanities.

The humanities encompass the exploration and expression of the human condition: what it means to be a conscious, creative, curious being. At UCLA, we believe humanists are uniquely capable of envisioning frameworks for more just and inclusive societies — and of forging connections in the sciences, law, medicine, education and the arts to bring those visions to life.

As our university embarks on its second century, we in the UCLA Division of Humanities are renewing our commitment to this vision.
