A Global Pandemic Is Here

On March 11, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus/COVID-19 epidemic a pandemic. COVID-19 is one of the most urgent public health crises in generations; we must act now to understand pathogenesis, infection, transmission, containment, and mitigation to halt this deadly virus.

Los Angeles is the frontline of community transmission. Scientists and medical and public-health professionals have been preparing for such a pandemic and are working together creatively to tackle this novel pathogen, learn from it, beat it, and prevent new outbreaks in Los Angeles and around the world.

We invite members of our UCLA community to partner with us as we continue to implement innovative research and testing in light of this pandemic.

Gifts to this fund will support:

• The exploration of the pathogenesis and transmission of the coronavirus family, including COVID-19
• The development and scaling up of novel diagnostic tests and therapeutics
• Seed research to combat emerging infectious diseases
• Infectious disease education for health care providers and the public
