Providing a state-of-the-art facility for groundbreaking research in psychology.
UCLA is home to the No. 1 clinical psychology program and No. 2 psychology department in the nation. Psychology is the largest major on campus, with more than 3,000 students. UCLA’s world-renowned faculty are making extraordinary advances in foundational science research that is improving the quality of life for millions worldwide. Their work includes brain-health breakthroughs, play-based treatments for autistic children and helping people with schizophrenia to stay productive. Additionally, UCLA psychology researchers partner with interdisciplinary medical students on major initiatives, such as the Depression Grand Challenge.
Yet current UCLA psychology department facilities do not live up to modern standards, let alone look to future needs required by such innovative researchers. Today, UCLA’s Department of Psychology is housed in structures built between 1939 and 1969. While once suitable, advancements in the modern psychology field have rendered the labs and facilities outdated. UCLA researchers must book time in shared labs with rented equipment in buildings with falling tiles, ramps that are not wheelchair accessible and elevators that break down. Researchers are pressed for space and time. They must travel to facilities, set up, then close everything down in order to prepare for the next users. This puts strain on the researchers and interrupts the flow of discovery.
The UCLA Psychology Building Renovation Fund plans to modernize existing facilities and construct a new building to house neuroscience clinics and labs. The renovation will provide updated research space, wet labs and a vivarium, state-of-the-art imaging and technology equipment, modernized lecture and seminar halls, seismic and access updates and 6,000 additional square feet of collaborative space. The updated facility will provide dedicated space — and save precious time — for innovative research.
Your gift to the UCLA Psychology Building Renovation Fund can help UCLA usher in an exciting new era for brain health. Contributions go toward enhancing existing facilities as well as recruiting and retaining top faculty and graduate students, and comfortably hosting subjects for clinical trials and studies. Your gift can give dedicated space for some of the most innovative, important work happening in the psychology fied. Your gift can help change lives.
