Nowhere is this energy more intense than in Los Angeles, one of the most diverse cities on earth. And it is here that you will find an institution that foreshadowed these dramatic changes: UCLA’s Institute of American Cultures (IAC). The IAC was created to foster and advance ethnic studies scholarship, and to build connections among the four ethnic studies research centers: American Indian, African American, Chicano and Asian American. Since its inception, the IAC has promoted interdisciplinary research and training, and supported graduate study. It has also served as a forum for intercultural scholarly exchange while promoting diversity among students and faculty.
For nearly half a century , the IAC has sought solutions to discrimination, inequities, and societal conflict with enduring dedication and passion. Giving to the IAC advances this groundbreaking exploration of the changing face of America and American life.
